Something's missing...

I am happily planning on following the something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, tradition; but I have a little problem... I'm missing one of them...

Let me share the non missing elements of this tradition first. My "something old," is very special to me. I would say other than my engagement ring, it is my most important piece of jewelry. I've had since I was a little girl, thus making it "old." Before my Great Grandmother passed away, she took diamonds out of her jewelry and made matching necklaces for all of her five great grand daughters. It was presented to us in a lovely silver heart box. I've worn it for many special events in my life, graduations, funerals, special performances, and I always knew I would wear it on my wedding day. I know it will make my Grandmother, Aunts, Cousins, Mother, Father, basically everyone who will recognize it so happy to see me wearing it.

I couldn't imagine myself wearing any other necklace. My Mother always tells me how much my Great Grandmother loved me. I was very young when she passed away, and I am so happy to have a part of her with me on my wedding day.

My something new could be many different things; my dress, my veil, my ring etc. But I'm choosing to make it something that I will be wearing for the first time on my wedding day, I will not have tried it on prior. My wedding undies!
Mine are similar to these, but they say bride on the top :)

I've already shared my something blue wedding shoes, but I'll share then again because  I love them so...

By this point you know what I'm missing, my something borrowed.

(A good beach read if you haven't read it yet)

I did have some ideas early on. I was going to borrow my MOH's veil but I ended up buying a veil I fell in love with on Etsy. Then I was thinking I would borrow my Mother's diamond earrings, but Mr. Castle bought me some beautiful Tiffany Pearl earrings for my birthday and I decided I must wear them for the wedding! By this point other wedding stresses took over and I forgot to find something to borrow...I'm sure I'll come up with something when I'm in California around family and friends, but as of now I have no ideas.

So I'm turning to you hive in the hopes that you can give me some ideas. What is your something borrowed?

Guess what I bought?!?!!

Drum roll please....

My wedding shoes!
Personal photos / They are actually more of a teal color in person. They look kind of green in this picture.

These are SO not what I envisioned myself wearing for the wedding. In fact, I did not want to go the blue shoe route at all. But then I saw these in the window on my way to work one day and I thought, "Oh my goodness, what cute shoes! Could they work as wedding shoes?" The store wasn't open at the time of my early hour commute and I figured they were probably too expensive anyway. Weeks went by and I would pass by the shoes everyday, always giving them some attention. "Hey cute shoes." But never going back to the store when they were open...

Then one night as I was walking to the subway ready to head home, I remembered the shoes. I figured it never hurts to ask, why not see how much they cost. Well I'm glad I did! They only had one pair left and it was in my size! And the shoes were in my budget! I tried them on, sent a picture text to my Matron of Honor and got the approval I needed to make the purchase.
Modeling my lovely shoes. Artemis had to photo bomb.
Personal Photos / Another view. You can see the color a lot better in this shot. And our printer....

I thought I might have buyers remorse the next day, but no I'm happy as a clam! I never envisioned myself wearing shoes like this, because I've never seen shoes like this! They are so unique and perfect for my vintage/theater wedding! So the moral of the story is, if you see something that catches your eye check it out! Yes it might end up being too expensive, but it also might be just what you were searching for!

Did you stumble upon something for your wedding? Shoes, jewelry, etc?

P.S. For anyone interested in these shoes the brand is called Seychelles. I didn't look it up because I didn't want to find the shoes at a better price... Those kind of things frustrate me so I figured I just won't look. :)

My Orange Shoes

I've been thinking a lot about whether or not I should go the colored shoe route. I love pictures of brides with a pop of color coming from their shoes. My cousin wore these beautiful purple shoes at her wedding, which unfortunately I think her dog chewed them up... but they were beautiful!

So naturally I began the search for orange shoes. I found some great inspiration pictures.

But when it came to finding the shoes in the size and style I wanted, I was coming up short. Or tall. I don't want a super high heel, 2 1/2 inch max. It was hard to find my perfect orange shoes for a reasonable price.

Then I started looking at ivory shoes and saw how much selection I had....

I could always have the shoes I like dyed, but there is always a risk of it not being the right shade of orange. Or I could get a cute orange flower to clip onto my shoes like this...

Fast forward to this morning. I got to work a little early so I decided to do some window shopping at Urban Outfitters, always dangerous, and I came across these...

Orange Flats!

I wanted to get some flats to wear toward the end of the night. My feet are not used to wearing heels and I'm not enthusiastic about the idea of enduring blisters and pain just to wear shoes that will be covered by my dress anyway. These shoes could totally solve my problem. I can wear ivory heels maybe with the flower clip for the ceremony, first dance, etc, and put on my orange flats for the dancing.

But my frugal mind wasn't sure if I should buy the flats right then and there... Maybe I'll find something better, maybe I'll hate them in a month, maybe my feet will grow. I get buyers remorse before I even make the purchase. I will try and talk myself out of buying anything. I'm very frugal. But not this time...

I bought them and I'm pleased to say I'm happy with my purchase. For $30 I got some cute orange flats. Hopefully my buyers remorse won't set in, but I don't think it will. I've worn them around the house a bit and they are nice and comfy. Now to continue the search for the heels!

Are you also getting flats for your big day?
