We Start Today: Getting Pretty

After we had eaten and had a dance party, it was time to get pretty! MOH N's Mom, AKA my second Mother, had arrived and was ready to get started on our hair. She was doing my Mom, MOH N and my hair. The other ladies are all very talented at doing their hair and opted to do their own.

Meanwhile our amazing makeup artist Ana had also arrived and got straight to work on my Mom's airbrush makeup!

As I waited for my turn in the hair and makeup chair I kept busy entertaining our youngest ring bearer. My Mom kept all our special childhood toys, so as soon as MOH N's son arrived she brought out a big box of trains for him to play with. We took turns trying to see who could build him the best track.

Every bride plays with trains on their wedding morning right?

The other ladies kept busy drinking more champagne, napping or just hanging out.

Finally it was my turn to get my hair done!

After hair I got into the makeup chair for my turn with Ana. 

I loved loved LOVED my airbrush makeup. It was so light. It felt like I wasn't wearing anything, a good feeling for someone like me who rarely ever wears makeup. Ana did such a great job of making it look classy and natural. Just the way I wanted it!

Back from the honeymoon with a new look!

Hello Hive!!!! I feel like I've been away forever but it hasn't even been a month yet since our wedding! It has been such a whirlwind going from our wedding in California back New York for a quick breather then onto our European honeymoon for two weeks. We had a blast but I'm happy to be back!

I have so much to tell about the weeks before the wedding, the honeymoon, the aftermath so far, not to mention recaps once we get our professional pictures! I'll start but telling you about a drastic change I decided to make just days after our wedding. Like many Bees before me I opted for a post wedding/pre-honeymoon haircut. I made up my mind long ago that I wanted short hair for our honeymoon. I referred to it as my "European bob." I was pretty tired of dealing with my long wedding hair and I knew it would end up in a pony tail the whole honeymoon if I didn't cut it all off.

 I wasn't wearing any makeup so I felt the sunglasses needed to stay on...

I love it. I like my long hair too but I needed a change. It was a great cut for traveling. My hair dried so fast! And it took two seconds to style it with my travel sized hair straightener. Needless to say I'm very happy with my decision to cut my hair. :)

Hair worries

I recently had a nightmare about my wedding hair. In my dream my hair was pulled back, which I hate, and in a messy bun that looked awful. I wanted beautiful soft curls. So dream Miss Castle tried to re-do her own hair, only to end up with what looked like crimped hair. It was not good...

OK not the musical, but my own hair. I know exactly how I want my hair to look for the big day. Half up, half down with curls, and my side part. Something like this:

Seems simple enough, but I fear my hair will fall flat before the ceremony even starts! You see I have pin straight hair. Some girls call me lucky, but I think they're mistaken. My hair won't do anything. I rarely ever blow dry my hair because its going to dry straight either way. When I try to curl my hair... it usually only lasts about 30 mins...

The only thing that has worked for me in the past, while performing in shows has been, hot rollers, and sponge curlers. A good old curling iron doesn't seem to do the trick for me. Oh and hairspray, lots of hairspray.

These next pictures are from that production of Baby that Mr. Castle and I did together. They wanted my hair to have a curly 80s look. The process to get my hair to look like this took almost 4 hours. It involved spraying hairspray on before putting my hair in sponge rollers. Then I would blow dry my hair while the sponge rollers we in. And finally I would add more hairspray before taking the sponge rollers out.

Everyone who saw this show thought I was wearing a wig, even my own father.

So I don't want my hair to be THAT curly, and I don't want to have to uses tons and tons of hairspray. I want light, bouncy, flowing curls. But can my hair do that? I'm really not sure. I have done a little experimenting and some times it goes well and other times it does not. My Matron of Honor's Mom, also known as my second mother, is a hair dresser and will be doing my hair for the wedding. I guess we'll have to strategize about the best approach for beautiful curls that will last at least through at least through our first dance.

Anyone else have pin straight hair? How do you curl it, what's your secret???
